Meet your teacher:
Sufian Zhemukhov is an award-winning author, Moth Story Slam champion, and a winner at the 2018 National Storytelling Festival. Sufian performs stories about his first-generation immigrant experience. The audiences and critics find the intercultural insights and idiosyncrasies of a foreign university professor funny, moving and heartwarming. Sufian’s recent solo show, Flirting Like an American, received critical acclaim in Washington, DC and Rochester, NY. Sufian holds a PhD in Cultural Anthropology and works as a professor at George Washington University. His recent book, Mass Religious Ritual and Intergroup Tolerance (Cambridge University Press), won the 2019 Best Book Award at the International Studies Association, which is like Golden Globe for scholars. Sufian has also authored multiple books of history, politics and poetry in three languages – Russian, Circassian and English
